Food Review: Zam Zam, North Bridge Road

Disappointed With Service & Hygiene

Located opposite Sultan Mosque along North Bridge Road, lies a coffee shop with a neon billboard and white lights hanging outside which is very blinding to the eyes.  If you happen to be in the vicinity, you will be able to see many people flocking over here for pocket-friendly Indian Muslim food.  I decided to patronize this popular coffee shop for dinner as I was craving for some Chicken Brayani.

Before the start of the meal, I had the well known Teh Tarik ($1) which is also known as the “pull tea”.  The tasted just nice to warm up my palate before the start of the meal.

I ordered the Egg Prata ($2) as an appetizer but was quite disappointed at the way it’s prepared as the egg wasn’t spread nicely across the prata especially the egg yolk.  It seems more like an omelette in a plain prata with nothing interesting.

However, the Mee Goreng ($3.50) was slightly better as the colour looks appetizing.  With the chilli paste and aroma of the bits of egg on the noodles, it tasted delicious too.  The Mee Goreng may seem good but it maybe a little oily for some.  There goes a saying, “good things comes with a price!”

I’m not sure how did the waiter confuse between Chicken Brayani ($4.50) with Chicken Murtabak.  It sounds so differently but yet I was served the Chicken Murtabak.  When I denied that I order a the Murtabak, he waiter insisted that I ordered it and eat it.  I was very unhappy with them and the young couple beside my table also told the waiter that I had ordered the Chicken Brayani instead of the Chicken Murtabak.  The rude waiter simply glared at me unhappily and storm away without saying a thing.

When the same waiter came back serving other tables, he just ignored me completely and I tried getting the attention of another waiter to check if my Chicken Brayani will be served.  It was only 5 minutes later that the another waiter attended to me to take my order of the Chicken Brayani.  The food was served 10 minutes later by the rude waiter by slamming the plate on the table which gave me a shock.

The food was lukewarm and not really that fantastic.  The standard of the Chicken Brayani have dropped since my last visit.  The taste of the herbs is very faint in the yellow rice.  The chicken isn’t hot enough and the meat was a little dry.

Observing from the waiter’s attitude, the service towards Muslim customers is much better compared to the service I had received.  Also, the place is very unhygienic as several flies were spotted flying around in the 2 story coffee shop.  After this horrible experience, I decide not to return to this place ever again to save myself from the rude service and maybe to save myself from food poisoning.
