Food Review: Sushi Tei, Paragon, Singapore

I was at Orchard Road one night and happen to crave for Japanese food.  So, I headed over to Sushi Tei at Paragon.  There wasn’t any queue outside but the restaurant was almost fully seated as it was during the dinner hour.

There are so many chain Japanese restaurants around Singapore but Sushi Tei have remained one of my choice for quick, quality and value for money Japanese cuisine.  Unlike other Japanese restaurants, the standards of the food here remained more or less the same over the years.

I had the Chirashi Don ($8.00) to satisfy my craving for seafood sashimi.  At this price, I feel that its very reasonable for 5 different varieties of sashimi and a tamago served on quality Japanese rice.  The rice isn’t too dry or overly sticky and has a glittering shine on it.  I would say that the sashimi was very fresh and the portion was just nice for me.

Japanese restaurants may tend to overcook the beef resulting in the rubbery texture or prepare it with too much sauce, which tends to overpower the original flavour of the beef.  However, the Yakiniku Don ($11.00) served here is succulent with a perfect texture with a slightly pinkish hue.  The generous serving of the yakiniku complements so well with the Japanese rice.

I have a admit that I have a soft spot for unagi and tamagoyaki is one of my favourite as I love the slight sweetness in the egg roll.  Thankfully, Sushi Tei serves the Unagi Tamago ($6.00) so that I can have the best of both worlds!  The perfectly rolled, golden, soft tamago at the outer layer with a slice of sweet, tasty unagi wrapped up in the center.  I simply can’t resist this wonderful piece of heaven.

Lastly, how can I not wash down the delicious dinner with free flow of hot green tea?

Overall, I feel that the Paragon’s outlet of Sushi Tei is a nice place for Japanese food as the food are fresh compared to other outlets outside of town area.  The interior design is very pretty too, giving the restaurant a very relax and cosy ambient.  However, the service maybe a little slow during peak hours and it’s difficult to get the attention of the busy service staffs running around taking orders and serving the tables given the large floorspace of the restaurant.
