Food Review: Dann’s Daily Pescetarian Cafe, Eastwood Road
“A little daily makes a difference. A little difference makes your day.”

If you are wondering what a pescetarian is, it simply means a healthy diet which consist of seafood without any meat of animals. This particular diet is ideal for those who wants to transit into vegetarianism or to avoid animal meat for health reasons. In the pescetarian diet, some fishes have high in omega-3 fatty acids and have numerous health benefits as compared to red meat, which is high in saturated fats.

Inspired by how the pescatarian diet have benefited them and their loved ones, Christina and her husband Xing, opened Dann’s Daily and it’s named after their son, Dann. The cafe has a cosy and non-intimating ambiance to relax and enjoy your meal or some snacks anytime of the day.
You need not worry about the taste of the food as usually most people stereotype “healthier food” as blend, unappetizing and expensive. The ingredients used here are only of the finest quality and aims to evoke emotion with a satisfying experience in the flavours through simplicity and purity. The price on the menu too, is kept low to benefit the mass market.

Over at Dann’s Daily, you can have a gastronomical experience and look forward to something new and refreshing that will invigorate your senses and pamper your taste buds. You can be sure to be surprised by the “Chef’s Mood of the Day” to try out something new Christina have whipped up.

At Dann’s Daily, they prepare Alkaline Water from their machine and serve it fresh everyday to dining-in guests and in your water bottle at no cost. This water is very beneficial to neutralize the acidity in the body.
After drinking the refreshing alkaline water to quench my thirst, Christina whipped up a Set Meal ($10) which consist of a Organic Brown & Wild Rice with Sprouts and Curry of the Day.

Organic Brown & Wild Rice with Sprouts is an accidental creation by Christina by tossing the steamed organic brown & wild rice together with a variety of organic sprouts like a salad with a little olive oil added to it. The red cabbage sprouts, sunflower sprouts and broccoli sprouts added a crunchy texture and mild fragrance of greens into the rice.
It tastes like fried rice to me but it doesn’t have a heavy feeling after eating it. Brown rice is definitely a better option compared to white rice. At Dann’s Daily, Christina do not use any white rice, white bread and white sugar as there’s no nutritional values in it.

The Curry of the Day was Mushroom Tofu. Unlike other “healthy concept restaurants”, Christina uses coconut milk instead of cow’s milk to give it the original flavour of curry. Coconut milk actually has many benefits to health compared to cow’s milk. The paste of the curry is freshly prepared everyday by pounding it with herbs and spices.
The curry isn’t very spicy so that young and old can enjoy this dish. I find it very light, refreshing and the curry is much better compared to those that contains chicken, which tends to be oily.

This is the Otah Japanese Cucumber Triangle Toasties ($5) which got many head over heels with its fresh, homemade otah. Christina reveals that she goes to the market every morning to choose the best mackerel to make the otah. Therefore, you can be sure you are getting the real ingredients in it. It it served with Japanese cucumbers to give it a crunchy and light texture.
The toasted wholemeal organic vegan bread is also very addictive with the toasted aroma. Chunks of mackerel can be tasted in the otah too. This is one delectable snack to have it anytime of the day.

Good food must end on the sweet note too. This Banana Steamed Cupcakes with Own-made Fresh Bananas Cream Frosting ($4) is set to please the sweet tooth of the health conscious. The muffin is prepared using unbleached flour, unsweetened organic soymilk made with natural whole, harvested soybeans and grapeseed oil.
Since the muffin is steamed, it doesn’t need a lot of oil so and it’s better in quality. Instead of using cream and sugar topping, Christina uses blended fresh banana which gives the muffin its natural sweetness. I love this simple and delicious muffin and it’s good that I can indulge without worrying about the calories.

Another memorable dessert will be the Chocolate Orange Jelly with Chocolate Lavender Sherbet ($8) which I find it unique. The chocolate orange jelly is made with dark chocolate & oranges, unsweetened organic soymilk & nectar, while the low fat Lavender sherbet is made with organic brown rice milk, eggless and organic raw sugar.
How thoughtful of Christina when it comes to using all natural and finest ingredients in every dish. I can just come by and relax in the afternoon, indulging away on sweet treats.

It sounds like tea but it looks like coffee, this Vanilla Teeccino Latte ($5) is caffeine free and has a complex flavour that is slightly sweet & nutty from roasted dates, figs & almonds. There are also alternatives such as Chai and Mocha to suit your taste buds.
I love the aroma from the mix of roasted ingredients and the rich and smooth texture of it. I like the idea of using alkaline water to brew this drink as caffeine is very acidic and this drink is a perfect alternative.

If you enjoy the food here, they do also have a small little counter selling organic products such as bread, cereals and tea leaves.

It was a great afternoon dining at Dann’s Daily as I felt really good and active after this meal. Usually, most of us will tend to feel sleepy and tired after our lunch. I personally do love the food here but felt that it may not suit the liking of everyone. Especially those who love deep fried food, there is none of it on the menu.
Be reminded that you’re in for a brand new concept of dining before you step into Dann’s Daily Pescetarian Cafe. Always remember, “A little daily makes a difference. A little difference makes your day.”
