Food Review: Tom’s Palette, Shaw Leisure Gallery

Can homemade ice-cream be that delicious?

I often think that making ice-cream at home is very fun as you can get to make unique and interesting flavours of your own.  Unfortunately, not many of us have an ice-cream making machine at home to enjoy such an indulgence.  Luckily, we can enjoy a whole range of interesting ice-cream without any hassle over at Shaw Leisure Gallery.

Tom’s Palette is a homemade ice-cream parlour and have been around for more than 5 years.  Tucked among the stretch of food alley with restaurants and eateries, crowd can be seen during certain periods of the day.  I bet this is the fastest way to chill from the heat out there with a cool cup of ice-cream.

Being a traditional homemade ice-cream parlour, ice-creams are freshly made in the shop and they do conduct ice-cream classes from time to time.  Ingredients are made from scratch using egg, milk, cream and sugar to give it a wholesome flavour and texture.

Today, Tom’s Palette has more than 60 flavours of ice-cream ranging from the popular chocolate to the adventurous curry apples.  Also to mention, they have special seasonal flavours during Chinese New Year and Christmas too.  Due to space constrain, the different flavours of ice-cream are switch around randomly from time to time due to popularity and demand.

Since I’m here, I couldn’t resist but to try some of their unique flavours of homemade ice-cream.

In the first cup, are the rare Salted Egg and Chocolate Stout flavours, which can’t be found elsewhere.  The salted egg flavour is an acquired taste for some who loves their ice-cream salty.  You’re absolutely right, a dessert doesn’t mean that it will suit the taste of a sweet tooth.  I’m not a huge fan of stout and I’m very lucky that the flavour tastes more rich and chocolaty.  If you wish to get drunk, the ice-cream won’t work!

Of course, I just can’t have enough of these delicious ice-cream.  The Rum & Raisin isn’t very high in the alcohol level and the generous amount of raisins balance the flavour pretty well.  Melt & Sizzle is one of flavour Tom’s Palette is popular for.  The powder within those chocolate chips will explode and sizzle on your tongue when bite on it.  It created a completely new level of experience eating ice-cream!

If you have a sweet tooth like me and love trying out unique flavours of ice-cream, I guess this is the place for you to check out with value for money homemade ice-cream.  They do have 10% discount for students from certain schools too!
