Food Review: Mad Jack Cafe, Nex Mall

Go mad over their homemade desserts

Last July, I blogged about my dinner experience at Mad Jack Cafe at PoMo and was impressed by their homemade desserts.  This time, I was invited to their nex mall outlet to try out some of their new items on the menu.  I can’t wait to discover more delicious items added onto their menu.

Mad Jack Cafe is situated at the basement of nex mall amidst other food and beverage outlets.  There isn’t any service charge at this casual dining restaurant and the food here is certified halal for our Muslim friends.  What’s more, if you’re a student, you can get to enjoy generous discounts.

The Ice Blended Pinnacle ($5.90), with a healthy concoction of apple, watermelon and pineapple is great for those who love fruit juices.  This is a thirst quenching-blend and a perfect drink on a sunny hot day.

From the smoothies selection, my favourite is the Fruit of the Forest ($6.90), which has a blend of strawberry, blueberry and raspberry.  The smoothies here at Mad Jack uses 100% real fruits without any artificial colour, flavours and sugar added.  Don’t worry if it sound too healthy for you, even a sweet tooth like me love this drink.

For the starter, the golden brown Soft Shell Crab ($12.90) was serve with a glistening glow.  It had a nice crispy texture and a decent flavour of the marinate which was appetizing to start with.

Next up, I was serve the Extreme Blue Mountains Chicken Burger & Chips ($15.90) which is not for the faint hearted.   With 5 homemade chicken patties with tomato, pineapple, lettuce and cheese piled on top of each other, I thought to myself that I am in for some serious working out.

If you’re wondering what’s so special about their homemade chicken patties, there are fine shredded carrots and bits of oats in it.  I find that the chicken patties taste of too much flour and I don’t really enjoy the combination with these unique combination of ingredients.  Their Cajun fries served along with the burger is worth mentioning for its peppery and tasty texture which can be highly addictive.

Mad Jack Cafe, well known for bringing in Australian dishes on their menu, is always adding on new dishes.  This Grilled Barramundi with Cajun Seasoning in Cream Sauce ($19.90) uses premium, fresh fish from the ocean and it’s served with mashed potato and apple peach salad.

I loved the grilled brown finish on outer texture of the fish fillet and the amount of the Cajun spices and herbs seasoning were just right too.  I feel the fish taste delicious by itself without even the need for the cream sauce served by the side.

If you have a palate for strong flavours, the Oxtail Stew & Rice ($14.90) is something you must try.  Seasoned with herbs and spices, the oxtail was pressure-cooked till it’s succulent and tender.  This flavoursome dish will leave you craving once again for it.  You can even request the how well you want the oxtail to be done to suit your taste.

Having enjoyed the desserts here previously, I could not resist the temptation to have more of it this time round.  I can simply drool by looking at this slice of OZ Brownie with Ice Cream and Choc Topping ($5.90).  The moist chocolate walnut brownie was serve warm and it got me totally addicted with the generous serving of chocolate sauce.  What more do I need to say with such an irresistible sweet slice of brownie right before me?

If you’re a fan of chocolate fudge cake, you will also like this Hot Chocolate Pudding ($7.90).  The description of this item actually says that it is topped with hot chocolate sauce but I didn’t see any on it.

Oh, there is it!  The luscious hot chocolate sauce is well hidden within the chocolate pudding and it ooze out when I cut it open.  This pudding maybe very sinful but who cares, it’s worth every single calorie indulging on it.

Mad Jack besides serving up affordable Australian-Asian fusion food, I must say that it’s definitely worth dropping by for their mouth-watering homemade desserts.  Do check out the Mad Jack Cafe nearest to you on their website listed below!
