Food Review: Overtime, Dempsey Road, Singapore

Instead of working overtime, chill out at Overtime

Overtime is situated among the Dempsey cluster of pubs, bars and restaurants.  If you happen to pass by this pub, you will be mesmerize by the interior design of the stone walls which creates a cosy and warm atmosphere.  Also, there is a mini stage for live bands performances on certain nights for you to have some laid back moments to chill out.

Remarkably known, Overtime is one of the very few food and beverage outlets in Singapore which serves Starker beer.   This beer is a Double Gold Medal Winner in the Asia Beer Awards 2010 in the “Wheat” and “Pilsner” category.  The mugs of beer are serve directly from the barrel with the tap key hammered in to ensure the highest level of freshness and a drinking experience of the 16th century Germany.

The Starker Aromatic beer is golden yellow in appearance and it’s a medium bodied beer with fresh fruity hints and herbal aroma.  It has a clean, light and citrus finish in the after taste.  This beer is definitely suitable for new or light beer drinkers as it taste very smooth and refreshing.

If you’re here with a group of friends, it’s best to order some snacks to share as it goes really well with beer.  The Garlic Pork is one of my recommended dish as the boneless loin cubes are glazed in soy and garlic and cook till its tender.

Thinking of something crispy to go along with your beer?  They have the Crunchy Pork which are fried till the outer layer remains crispy.  This is sure to make a good finger food.

I am sure they have lots of pork dishes here and they can be done in so many ways. This savoury Char Siew (roasted lean pork) has a tinge of sweetness among the succulent texture.

If you’re not a meat lover, they have the vegetable and egg Spring Roll done the traditional way.  Served alongside with chili sauce, it is as delightful as the meat dishes.

My favourite dish for the night will definitely be this lovely Calamari Scampi Salad.  As a fan of seafood and Thai food, this dish sure got my taste buds addicted to its tangy mixture of lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, chili padi, onion rings, freshly squeezed lime juice and Thai chili sauce.

They also have the Asian alternative of the salad with simmered pork instead of calamari.  The pork is nicely done with a tender finish and goes really well with the mixture of the salad.  I will say that these 2 salads are very appetizing and addictive!

For those who can’t get enough of the little bites, I am sure this scrumptious Char-Grilled Chicken will fill your appetite.  Char-grilled till it remains juicy and flavourful, this chicken thigh is served with “acar” and “pappadum”.  Along with the sides, there is also the secret sauce, which contains grounded chili padi and lime juice.

Finger food like Satay is one of the favourite food by Asians to chill out to.  The marinated meat on the wooden stick dipped with spicy peanut sauce, it’s just pure bliss to be chewing the meat off the stick.  You can choose from the varieties of chicken, beef and lamb satay on the menu.

How can we forget about chicken wings?  Their Thai Style Chicken Wings is a recommended dish on the menu which I have to give a thumbs up for it.  These are no ordinary wings as they are rubbed with a variety of Thai spices before deep frying.  However, they are pretty mild and its suitable for young and old!

Overtime has really a spread of heart-warming Asian fare to chill out to after a long day of work.  It’s also a perfect place to unwind to live music performances and have a sip of the German Starker beer.
