Can homemade ice-cream be that delicious?
I often think that making ice-cream at home is very fun as you can get to make unique and interesting flavours of your own. Unfortunately, not many of us have an ice-cream making machine at home to enjoy such an indulgence. Luckily, we can enjoy a whole range of interesting ice-cream without any hassle over at Shaw Leisure Gallery.
Where Gelato and Art Meet
If you love drawing, painting and have a sweet tooth, you have to check out Singapore’s very first Gelato & Art cafe, Scoop of Art, which is located at Marine Parade Community Club. It have been around sometime in mid-2010 and many children, youths and adults have tried their hands on a piece of artwork while enjoying their gelato.
When I enter the cafe, the place is nicely decorated with many art pieces like an art gallery. Doodle art fills the floor and walls as they are not left untouched. Paintings done by students from art schools are also on display in the cafe.
The entire cafe feels like an art classroom. Forget about the school rules, over here, you are allowed to eat and drink as Scoop of Art serves awesome desserts, smoothies, floats, pies, pastas and sandwiches. Oh, not to forget, their signature homemade gelato!
Besides the 18 flavours of gelato seen here, there are many more different flavours, which are rotated every week depending on the gelato chef. Almost all of the flavours of gelato are suitable for vegetarian as they do not use eggs. The sorbets are made only from sugar, water and fresh fruits. Our Muslim friends can get to enjoy it too as it doesn’t contain any pork or lard.
I sampled some of the popular gelato flavours such as the Raspberry (bottom right) and Alfonso Mango (center) which feels like eating the real fruit itself. The raspberry flavour has bits of fruits in it while the mango flavour has a smooth texture of mango puree and the taste is so rich!
The Brownie & Butterscotch (bottom left) and Mars Bar+Sea Salt (top right) flavours is a must-try if you love creamy flavours with a twist. I was a little skeptical about the Mars Bar+Sea Salt flavour but it proved my wrong after I’ve tasted it. I tried figuring how it tastes like and it seems to be rather similar to caramel after a second thought. The Brownie & Butterscotch is made using their homemade brownies which fans of sweet tooth will definitely enjoy the heavenly combination.
Lastly, if you prefer a flavour which is not so complicated, the Naked White (top left) and Dark Chocolate (top) maybe just the one for you. Naked White simply refers to Vanilla but it taste rather different as eggs are added into this flavour and it taste kind of like an eggnog. For the Dark Chocolate flavour, I have to caution you that it may be quite an overkill if you’re not a fan of dark chocolate to begin with.
Whenever you order a cup or a tub of gelato, you will be give free doodle mats like those pasted on the glass panel for you to express your creativity. If you feel like doing something else, the D.I.Y art kits are available for purchase such as batik, customised cards, wall tiles, canvases and those materials you see here. Don’t worry as they do provide free flow of paint so there’s endless possibilities with your art pieces!
Scoop of Art provides gelato delivery and the cafe is available for birthday parties and private functions. It’s never a place just for kids as adults too can have a fun time doodling while enjoying a cup of delectable gelato.
