Food Review: Tamako Meal, Causuarina Road

Cosy Ambiance, Good Value for Japanese Food

Have you ever dream of dining at a very zen Japanese house on the lake which is surrounded by lush greenery and tranquil silence?  I am not sure about you but I would definitely love to experience that with Japanese food.  I know it sounds too farfetched and that will be totally impossible in the hustle and bustle of Singapore.

Located along Upper Thomson Road, there’s a small little road better known for the Indian roti prata restaurant beside a handful of private houses.  Along this stretch of shops, you will find a humble looking Japanese restaurant which will definitely catch your attention if you ever passed by here.  I won’t even know of this hidden gem until my friend Sidney brought me here.

Authentic, Affordable and Quality Japanese

When someone mention Japanese restaurant to you, I’m pretty sure the first thing that comes into your mind will be sushi, sashimi and yakitori.  However, at Ootoya Japanese restaurant, they serve up healthy, authentic, and value for money home-cook style Japanese food.

Tucked on the 8th level of Orchard Central, Ootoya Japanese restaurant stands out the most compared to the other restaurants.  That’s because it is the only restaurant with a crowd waiting outside for tables.  While looking at the menu outside of this restaurant, you would have notice something unique.  The Japanese believe in eating healthy and in moderation so that explains the amount of calories stated beside each dish on the menu.

Nihon Mura, The Cathay: The Place For Nice & Cheap Sushi

I was at The Cathay on a weekday afternoon looking for a nice place to dine for lunch.  First thing which came into my mind was Aston’s Specialties.  So I took a lift up to the 4th floor to check it out, hoping there isn’t any long queue out there for during lunch hour.  To my horror, there’s quite a long queue and I didn’t want to wait as I got to rush for a movie.  I was very hungry too and I need food quickly.

I thought for a while and bingo!! Nihon Mura serves cheap and good Japanese food.  Actually, I wanted to try their sushi as I’ve not try it before.  So I took a lift down to the basement and there is it!  I was so happy when I saw the sign at the entrance of the restaurant saying “99 cents for all sushi”.  So I hurried in to check it out.
